Tuesday 7/13/10 Mr Bannon’s Funeral
Tuesday 7/13/10
When you saw the SUBJECT line
I’m certain you were all SO looking forward to this email, not!
I suppose not one of my HAPPIER Pictures of the Day —
but…. POTD is about my life & I suppose not all days are Happy Ones?
Mr Bannon is my friend Connie’s Dad — I guess I knew him for about 40 years.
Today’s funeral was held at Resurrection of Our Lord Church –
it is where I went to school for 8 years & so did Danny Diehl!

I KNOW that I cannot be the only one who counts CARS in funeral processions.
I think I was right in the middle of Mr. Bannon’s procession –
maybe car number 20??
|
and another 20 behind me??
|
|
….. this was such an OPPORTUNE picture….
you see – Mr Bannon was a Purple Heart Veteran of WWII…
When I saw this truck I knew I had to get the photo….
|
|
As a marine Mr Bannon was entitled to a Military funeral –
where the marines performed the Flag Ceremony &
a sole Marine in the distance played TAPS =
which of course was extremely sad 😦

|
dripping “problem” at the luncheon — things could be worse?
|
|
CHEERS Mr Bannon — in his memory –
he wanted everyone to have lunch & a drink on him….
still giving even after he’s gone….
WHERE do I send his Thank You note?
|
Childhood Friends – Mary (left) & Marguerite (right)
~it’s awful to say BUT I’m going to say it anyway.
The “best” part of a funeral is you get to see FRIENDS!!
Death brings people together.
WHY do we have to wait til then?
We need more effort to get together & celebrate LIFE!
|
Marguerite having a MANHATTAN for Mr Bannon –
his all-time favorite drink….
|
|
After lunch we all went back to Connie’s house –
our friend PETE stopped over to give condolences.
Pete was my neighborhood mechanic when I live in
Philadelphia & Connie still uses Pete.

Mr Bannon & Me — last year —
|
FIVE DOLLARS…..
Mr Bannon used to ALWAYS send me $5 for my birthday –
just for the FUN of it…..this is last years five dollar bill.
Who wants to pick up the tradition???

The world is full of goodbyes.
You probably meet a new one every day,
but that never makes it any easier.

What’s the one thing you’d like others
to remember about you at the end of your life?

playing Taps
|
There are no official words to the music but here are some of the more popular verses:
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the hills, from the lake,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.
Go to sleep, peaceful sleep,
May the soldier or sailor,
God keep.
On the land or the deep,
Safe in sleep.
Love, good night, Must thou go,
When the day, And the night
Need thee so?
All is well. Speedeth all
To their rest.
Fades the light; And afar
Goeth day, And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well; Day has gone,
Night is on.
Thanks and praise, For our days,
‘Neath the sun, Neath the stars,
‘Neath the sky,
As we go, This we know,
God is nigh.
