Beer School
Today’s beers were from Russian River
Until I get a “real” job, (ideas anyone???)
which is ultimately my goal,
I will always make an effort to get myself to
Beer School (free) at Memphis Taproom
the 1st Wednesday of the month.
It’s a great learning experience; it’s fun
meeting new people & networking too.
Plus afterwards you can stay & have a
fabulous lunch……

CHRIS was one of the presenters today –
he works at Memphis Taproom on weekends
KEITH another teacher of today’s class – he even
broke out the WHITE Holy Communion necktie
for the event……
DAMNATION was first up.
It is a GOLDEN ALE:
Inspired pretty much by Duvel and
other strong golden ales of Belgium.
It is medium-bodied, has a fruity/banana bouquet,
and a dry, spicy finish.

Next Lesson was SALVATION:
A Strong Dark Ale
Supplication is a
Sour Brown Ale Aged in Pinot Noir Barrels with Sour Cherries.
“Brown Ale aged in used Pinot Noir barrels
from local Sonoma County wineries.”
Beer School was oversubscribed.
I probably should NOT even be telling you about it
as I may not have a seat next month!
(maybe I’ll have a “real” job by then?)

Chris pouring beer & educating us!
Multi-tasking. What a guy!
the final beer was CONSECRATION…..
Sour Dark Ale
Aged in Cabernet Sauvignon Barrels with Currants
Rich flavors of chocolate truffle, spice, tobacco, currants,
and a bit of Cabernet. Very full-bodied, sip slowly!

What’s on your agenda for APRIL 21st?
I have an idea…..
I’m quite studious – I take notes & all!
I need to be able to help customers in the event
they need information about BEER (or wine).

Friend DENISE joined me today!
With limited seating my friends may have to
take a number if they want to come with me!
we made friends today!
Barry & Gina (off work for the day!)
after Beer School I thought I’d have some
BLIND PIG which is another fabulous Russian River
brew — however — it was really a ploy to
hide the true identity of the real beer that
was to be tapped after School……

SURPRISE guest beer —
PLINY THE YOUNGER —
it is a much coveted beer that is hard to find.
Here’s his story…..
Triple IPA with triple the amount of hops as a regular I.P.A. It is extremely difficult, time and space consuming, and very expensive to make…..which is Why it’s not made more often! This beer is very full-bodied with tons of hop character in the nose and throughout. It is also deceptively well-balanced and smooth.

Denise & I both opted for the Vegan Club Sandwich.
SMOKED COCONUT CLUB
Grilled lemon garlic tofu, smoked coconut, tomato herb mayo
Train into the city for Wine Class was BUSY!
I am guessing because of the Flower Show
in center city – it’s quite popular!
Wine School – today we learned about
Sparkling Wines & Sweet/Dessert wines.
The more I learn the more I realize what I don’t know….
