Wednesday April 18th 2012 CO-OP Wine Tasting at The Imperia

April 19, 2012
Wednesday April 18th 2012

I received an invite to this cool Wine Tasting
(Thank you Bryce (Martin Scott Wines) & Stacy (Domaine Select))
that was held for people in the industry.  I didn’t count how
many wines were offered but today after reviewing the booklet
of available wines to try, my original estimate
of 500 was short a couple hundred…..
We probably tasted about 88 wines, most likely many more,
but since 8 is my favorite number I thought I’d go with 88
as my guesstimate. Needless to say there was a plethora
of spitting going on – (I felt like a Camel!)
it’s just not possible to DRINK all those wines.
(although I think I witnessed one person trying, wasn’t pretty)
Towards the end, Palate Fatigue definitely set in
 – at that point we tried a few spirits
then went on our very merry way……….

this was an accidental random photo that I kind of liked,
so I kept it in my photo journal repertoire…..
I wish I took more photos but it is a challenge to
multi-task & I had to create priorities.
I was there to taste, network then take pictures.
I needed more time!!!

after tasting wine all night our Taste Buds were
asking for relief. To borrow a line from
Erin (in earlier photo)
“it felt like my teeth were wearing little sweaters”.
We switched it up & tried this delightful spirit.

Paul-Marie Fils 25 Year Pineau de Charentes
Pineau de Charentes is not a common drink in the US.
It is a French fortified wine made from blending brandy (usually unaged)
and fermented grape must, which is juice made from the seeds,
skins and stems of the grape.

Paul-Marie Fils Pineau de Charentes is unusual in that

instead of being made with unaged eau de vie, it is made with Cognac
and then further aged.   “It was made from Cognac distilled in 1984
and then white wine from 1985 and put into a barrel for 25 years!”
A twenty-five year old dessert wine is unusual indeed.

Wine while climbing Kilimanjaro…..

If all be true that I do think,
There are five
reasons we should drink:

Good wine— a friend— or being dry—
Or lest we should be by and by—
Or any other reason why.
