Behrens & Hitchcock “Ode To Picasso 2004

I was meeting Stephanie, someone I’ve known for 10 years –
but never met in person. We’ve talked on the phone,
exchanged emails, faxes, and are Facebook friends.
but never met.  Steph is from the area but now lives
in California – in wine country where she is a winemaker.
….hence how we “met”…..

12/27/10 Train, birds, snow, work, leopard coasters

http://helentdiehl.posterous.com/

12/27/10

I was scheduled off work today but did a co-worker a favor
& covered for him. WHY did I offer to work?
I would have rather been home warm & toasty –
snuggling with the dogs watching the birds,
having hot chocloate.

1
with the holidays & the snow storm –
my train was PACKED this morning…..
2
pigeons outside an office building trying to keep warm.
it was frigidly cold & very windy in the city.
3
i usually walk on that side of the street –
but not today!
4
the snow dunes…. as my neighbor calls them…..
4a
here i am at work. it was non eventful.
someone has to be there – just in case we get an order.
The market closed down 18 with light trading volume.
5
meant to show you this the other day….
got a surprise package in the mail –
with instructions…..
6
handmade leopard coasters — form my friend
in Arizona — aren’t they totally COOL?
Who wants to order some? I’m sure she
could make whatever design you want!

(thank you Jackie!!!!)

The 17 Success Principles

I (wrongly) assumed EVERYONE knew about the
17 Success Principles that were featured in the
book by Napoleon Hill & Clement Stone :
Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude

71a2q8s1m9l

Here is a little refresher of what the
17 Success Principles are:

1.  A Positive Mental Attitude
2.  Definiteness of Purpose
3.  Going the extra mile
4.  Accurate thinking
5.  Self-discipline
6.  The master mind alliance
7.  Applied faith
8.  A pleasing personality
9.  Personal initiative
10.  Enthusiasm
11.  Controlled attention
12.  Teamwork
13.  Learning from defeat
14.  Creative vision
15.  Budgeting time and money
16.  Maintaining sound physical and mental health
17.  Using cosmic habit force (universal law)

This book is really very good.
It’s one of the few books I’ve read more than once.
I actually have the principles memorized & refer to them frequently.
These PRINCIPLES are what successful people utilize in their lives.
The idea is to integrate these beliefs into one’s life on a consistent basis.
If they work for them ~ they can work for me?

Sunday 12/26/10

Sunday 12/26/10

We were expecting a big snow storm so I ran some errands early
in order to stay home warm & snuggly during the blizzard.

1

Our post office is open 24/7 – which I love –
so i can mail packages any time of the day –
assuming they fit in the bin – which most do!

2

Mailing Mail — are you getting one??

4

The grocery store was incredibly busy —
everyone was stocking up for the storm.
Shelves were EMPTY = wish I got some
pictures of that…. the “afterthought” photo…

5

our groceries we NEEDED to get to tide us over
during the storm

6

We usually buy fresh squeezed juice but the
store didn’t have any – so I just made our own.
Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice & OJ too.
Next I’m going to make apple juice!

8

here comes the snow….backyard snow!

9

Snow out front – SNOW DOGS

10

our dog sled – perfect weather for them!

A paraprosdokian is a figure of speech

in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is unexpected in a way

that causes the reader or listener to re-frame or reinterpret the first part.

v  Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian

v  War does not determine who is right – only who is left.

v  Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

v  Evening news is where they begin with ‘Good evening’, and then proceed to tell you why it isn’t.

v  I didn’t say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
