Wednesday 7/14/10 boss, end of the world, teepee bones, book, HOTTEST

Wednesday 7/14/10

Rich
Saw Michael’s boss RICH on the train –
guess what he was doing?? — WORKING!!
just like Michael – always working….

Center20city
We were having STORMS in the city today
Dark20skies
from my office — AFTER it cleared up
Rain
this looks WAY BETTER than it did –
around 2:30 today it looked like the END OF THE WORLD –
i was ready to see Flying Monkeys!!!
Cimg2385
teepee “bones” as I call them.
When the kids build their teepees they have to bring
in the blankets every night b/c of the RAIN.
Today – we just had the “bones”….no “skin”
Double20bind

the latest book I am reading:

The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian

~ so far it is enjoyable…. will keep you posted –
look for the review in a couple weeks….

Hot
ok – this Car temperature gauge WINS!
My friend ELTON who lives in Arizona sent me this today.
They are having a HEAT ADVISORY where they live –
and NO – they NEVER “get used to it”……
122 degrees – that is REALLY HOT……
thanks for thinking of Picture of the Day Elton
& sharing 🙂

I TOTALLY want one of these toasters……

A new stainless-steel toaster has see-through insulated glass walls

and a button that allows you to stop the toasting at any time,

Tuesday 7/13/10 Mr Bannon’s Funeral

Tuesday 7/13/10

When you saw the SUBJECT line
I’m certain you were all SO looking forward to this email, not!
I suppose not one of my HAPPIER Pictures of the Day —
but…. POTD is about my life & I suppose not all days are Happy Ones?
Mr Bannon is my friend Connie’s Dad — I guess I knew him for about 40 years.
Today’s funeral was held at Resurrection of Our Lord Church –
it is where I went to school for 8 years & so did Danny Diehl!

Cimg2371
in the vestibule of the church Pictures of Mr Bannon
Cimg2372
Resurrection is quite an elaborate church.
Each time I go there as an adult I appreciate the intricacies
& details of the church more & more……

Cimg2373
We were suppose to take Tookany Creek Parkway to the
cemetery but we were having torrential rains & the Parkway
was pretty much a RIVER instead of a ROAD.
We would have needed BOATS!
Cimg2375

I KNOW that I cannot be the only one who counts CARS in funeral processions.

I think I was right in the middle of Mr. Bannon’s procession –
maybe car number 20??
Cimg2376
and another 20 behind me??
Cimg2377
….. this was such an OPPORTUNE picture….
you see – Mr Bannon was a Purple Heart Veteran of WWII…
When I saw this truck I knew I had to get the photo….
Cimg2378
As a marine Mr Bannon was entitled to a Military funeral –
where the marines performed the Flag Ceremony &
a sole Marine in the distance played TAPS =
which of course was extremely sad 😦
Cimg2379
dripping “problem” at the luncheon — things could be worse?
Cimg2381
CHEERS Mr Bannon — in his memory –
he wanted everyone to have lunch & a drink on him….
still giving even after he’s gone….
WHERE do I send his Thank You note?
Cimg2382

Childhood Friends – Mary (left) & Marguerite (right)

~it’s awful to say BUT I’m going to say it anyway.
The “best” part of a funeral is you get to see FRIENDS!!
Death brings people together.
WHY do we have to wait til then?
We need more effort to get together & celebrate LIFE!
Cimg2383
Marguerite having a MANHATTAN for Mr Bannon –
his all-time favorite drink….
Cimg2384
After lunch we all went back to Connie’s house –
our friend PETE stopped over to give condolences.
Pete was my neighborhood mechanic when I live in
Philadelphia & Connie still uses Pete.

Mr Bannon & Me — last year —

FIVE DOLLARS…..

Mr Bannon used to ALWAYS send me $5 for my birthday –
just for the FUN of it…..this is last years five dollar bill.
Who wants to pick up the tradition???

but that never makes it any easier.

How_others_remember_you
What’s the one thing you’d like others
to remember about you at the end of your life?

Taps
playing Taps
There are no official words to the music but here are some of the more popular verses:

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the hills, from the lake,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.

Go to sleep, peaceful sleep,
May the soldier or sailor,
God keep.
On the land or the deep,
Safe in sleep.

Love, good night, Must thou go,
When the day, And the night
Need thee so?
All is well. Speedeth all
To their rest.

Fades the light; And afar
Goeth day, And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well; Day has gone,
Night is on.

Thanks and praise, For our days,
‘Neath the sun, Neath the stars,
‘Neath the sky,
As we go, This we know,
God is nigh.

Monday 7/12/10 sandwich 1/4’s, cupcake, teepees, chester mail, clouds

Monday 7/12/10

Cimg1152
Michael makes fun of me b/c I cut my sandwich in 1/4’s…

Cupcake20truck

in Center City Philadelphia…..
Cimg1153
my former colleague MICHAEL bought one today for his wife —
awww – how nice Mikey!
Cimg1158
my neighbor’s children built teepees in their background.
What FUN!
Cimg1159

************************************************************************

??? Life changes every minute of every day.

You lose friends. You gain friends.

You realize your friend wasn’t ever really your friend.

You look for love. You find love. You lose love.

You realize all long that you’ve been loved. You laugh. You cry.

You laugh so hard that you cry. You do this, you do that.

You really wish you hadn’t done that.

You then learn from that and are glad that you did.

You have your ups. You have your downs.

You look at others and wish you were them.

You then realize who they are and are glad that you’re you.

You love life. You hate life.

In the end you just find yourself happy to be living life,

no matter what???s thrown at you. ???

Sunday 7/11/10 Tinicum (Erwinna, PA) – biking & art show

Sunday 7/11/10

Deja vu – back to Tinicum Park – where we biked from yesterday.
This time no ominous skies – it was bright & sunny –
great day for a bicycle ride!
Cimg0008
Tinicum Park is not quite 45 minutes from Ivyland.
After biking we planned to check out the festival.

Cimg0019
7/11/10 ~ we rode 38.4 miles today. phew!
This looks a little different than yesterday’s photo
that was taken in the same spot.
Cimg0022
FLEECYDALE is one of the most picturesque roads in
Bucks County – it’s a CLIMB too…..but I did it!!
Cimg0021
at the top of Fleeceydale & Carversville rd there was an
open field with an abundance of vultures – it was pretty cool!
Cimg0026
This was our first stop – 20 miles into the ride.
Cimg0030
Michael “working” – he was studying the cable lines –
He’s going to schedule a tech to come fix the wires.
Cimg0032
WHAT IS RIGHT with this picture?
You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!!!
Cimg0033
We didn’t get too far after this stop…
Helen had a flat tire…..
Cimg0034
fortunately I travel with my bike mechanic…..
we were wondering if my tire had an “issue” b/c
it was my second flat in 2 weeks –

Cimg0040
view of the Delaware river from the Frenchtown Bridge —
WAY different than yesterday’s view……
(go back in your notes….)

Cimg0054
Rick the butterfly guy was REALLY VERY INTERESTING

http://butterflyrick.com/

Cimg0056

that we went to yesterday but was closed.
This was a path outside their building.
Cimg0060

Saturday 7/10/10

I learned about the Open Air Theater the other day through Bucks Happening web site.
www.buckshappening.com (this is an AWESOME resource, check it out!)

I thought the Theater sounded FUN.
& I’m always interested in new experiences (as you KNOW!).
The open air theater is in Washington Crossing Park – the NJ side
(vs the PA side where we biked from last weekend).
It is about 30 minutes from Ivyland.

Moon Over Buffalo was the show we went to see.

It was FUNNY – we laughed A LOT!

“A hilarious farce about a dysfunctional theatrical company.”

Cimg2365

(they were their roles in the play)

Howard is Roz’s fiancee.

We’re definitely going back to see more shows.

And now we know “the scoop”….

We can bring a picnic basket & do some alfresco dining.

Let me know if you are interested in going with us next time!!!

~ It looks like I’m in front of a set or something –
but it IS REAL. The skies were ominous – but we
gave it a go — got 5 miles in before the rain came.
I suppose TEN MILES is better than none?
