Saturday 5/22/10 beach volleyball, pt pleasant, NJ

Saturday 5/22/10

today was my first beach volleyball tournament.

we usually play our Beach tournaments in Pt Pleasant, NJ.

that’s about an hour & 15 minutes from Ivyland.

getting the nets set up – 8 a.m.

they set up about 40 nets i think – it’s a big tournament.

~??400 people

??I’ll try getting better pictures next time.

Today was kind of cloudy & overcast

my partner for today MARY & her daughter Stephanie

(helping keep score). Mary & I used to play years ago (20?)

and we try to get at least one tournament in every year.

It is the grilled chicken Pannini — hold the chicken & spinach

add American & Provolone cheese — so essentially

… a grilled cheese sandwich….

properly paired with an ’04 Tuscan…. perfect!

taking it easy tonight — packing & resting up for my

first volleyball tournament tomorrow…..

Thursday 5/20/10 birds, biking, beer

Thursday 5/20/10

There goes SUGARPLUM –

she was hanging

out in our back yard this morning but she starting flying

before I could focus the camera.

Birds are notorious for not cooperating.

a friend asked how I knew the eggs i were showing you

were really BLUEBIRD eggs…. and i figured if Denise

was wondering maybe someone else was wondering too,

but was afraid to ask?

SIZE is one way.

ALSO —I know the eggs are bluebirds

b/c I see the bluebirds going IN the nest box.
Robins generally do not use nest boxes (enclosed)

they make nests in trees or other crazy places they can find –
like on top of outdoor ceiling fans or rain gutters…….

(neighbors of mine have seen both venues)

Another question posed was…..
What beetle is it that gives birth to meal worms?
Mealworms are the larva form of the mealworm beetle.

AND …. as the above life cycle indicates …..

mealworms really aren’t WORMS at all — they are larva.

5/20/10 Thursday night bike group & we had two others join late.

Michael IS in the photo this week b/c our friend Joyce

(broken pelvis) took the photo (but did not bike).

Michael, Helen, Howard, Adam, Mary, Amazon Joe & Dean.

We rode 23 miles tonight. (ytd 238 miles for helcha)

One of the roads we cycled on is called TURKEYTROT.

I love that name….

After biking (& showering….) we had an impromptu

beer tasting with neighbors.

Wednesday 5/19/10 books, pens, fish birds, worms, cat

Book Fair in my office building today

our Lobby was transformed into a Book Store –

As much as I like to read I wasn’t tempted to buy any-

i have a ton o’books waiting for me to read

& another 111 waiting on my Amazon wish list

sadly my lucky leopard pen ran out of ink —

it’s good in one way because I like to “use up stuff” –

but I liked the way it wrote…it isn’t really

worth getting a refill for…..

plus i have a plethora of pens waiting to be used up….

this is just one of our many pen containers…..

in fact – next time you come over –

take home a pen!

fisherman Michael acquired some minnow traps…..

let the fishing begin……

just caught one so far…..

Let’s hope no predators get them……

the beetles lay the eggs & they become the worms (larvae).

Then the larvae turn into beetles… and the cycle continues.

Bluebirds LOVE to eat mealworms!

Love and Sorrow…………..

Love and Sorrow. ??
Swallows.
Here a female mate is injured and the condition is soon fatal.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? She was hit by a car as she swooped low across the road.

Here he brought her food and attended to her

with?? love and compassion.??

He brought her food again but was shocked to find her dead.

He tried to move her … a rarely-seen effort for swallows!

Aware that his sweetheart is dead and will never
come back to him again, He cries with adoring love.

He stood beside her, saddened of her death.?? ??

Finally aware she would never return to him, he stood beside her body
with sadness and sorrow.

??The??photographer sold these pictures for a nominal fee to the most
famous newspaper in France .?? All copies of that edition were
sold out on the day these pictures were published.

And many people think animals don’t have??brains or feelings?
