7/5/10 Walk in the Woods with DOGS, Ice cream (again!)
7/5/10
I’ve been LOVING the “no plans” holiday weekend”.
Today the dogs & I took a long walk in the woods —
there’s a path near our house – maybe 10 minutes away –
that every time I drive past it I say “I wonder where that goes –
I want to check it out”. It only took me 6 years to get there
& explore “the path” & I’m very happy I did.

waiting patiently to go on their walk.
|
Michael was “too busy fishing” (in our back yard)
to come with us …..
|
(don’t get me started……!!!)
|
Oh I am SO going to be checking out the
pennypacktrust.org website – this trail was cool!

our view of the path….. what are they looking at??
|
well…. we DID see a few of these chipmunks —-
and I would love to take credit for THIS photo —
but I “borrowed it” from my friends blog who also
went to a nature preserve today – a few states away —
Minnesota …. check it out – Stef’s photos are GREAT –
especially the last few which feature……..
well, you’ll see……

i was HAPPY seeing wild raspberries – you know –
in the event I got lost — I could forage for food.
PLUS – I did have dog treats with me –
I’m guessing the pups would share?
|
|
We discovered a little swimming hole – Pennypack Creek.
|
Dogs frolicked in the water. Look at Chester shaking his head.

came upon this house/structure.
guess I will have to do homework to find out
what it is or what is was?

back at the ranch……. My last Tree Swallow baby —
|
He is 3 weeks old today — very ready to fledge. I will not be surprised
to find an empty nest box next time I check it.

sister Pat was in the mood for ice cream since she didn’t get it yesterday.
I suggested we go to Goodnoe Ice Cream which is near our brother
Raymond’s house. We stopped for a short visit before indulging
in the frozen cow milk treat.
|
Ray showed us his new Garden tables –
you have a little island for your drink & in the “moat”
you plant plants — this was the best description
I could come up with.
|
Raymond does all kinds of cool artistic designs —

Goodnoe Farm is a place we used to go for
ice cream when we were little kids.
It used to be a REAL FARM with cows.
Sadly, now it is a shopping center.
This is their new building – just ice cream, no cows.

That’s so cool you finally checked out the path by the house and it wasn’t boring! Were you able to go into that little house? That would’ve been fun to explore if it wasn’t locked up tight.Oh, I checked out Raymond’s website. He does some beautiful work! If he were my brother, I’d be commissioning him to make me all kinds of things!!
The trail was totally cool & there is SO MUCH MORE to explore. We really went on the mini tour & not the 4 hour tour….. I was scared of getting lost b/c we did have path choices & it was just ME so I went straight – this time. It was VERY HOT too so we didn’t go as far as I would have liked. Plus I was juggling both dogs, leashes, backpack… it was tough with both dogs all by myself. It would have been easier if Michael came along but he was fishing…….The little house WAS padlocked. I’m thinking maybe nothing is in there but they don’t want kids playing around in there? Raymond makes the coolest of cool stuff. He’s too expensive for me!! We DO have some functional pieces in our house designed by him but generally he is very busy doing his commissioned pieces. And he does charge a lot – as he should!
What a nice day you had! When you emailed me and I saw the chipmunk photo I thought, wow, Helen took a photo that looks just like mine! No one ever accused me of being too quick on the uptake 😉
Stef – I LOVED your photo & wanted to give YOU credit. I hope some people came over to visit your BLOG that day b/c You & Bookman also looked like you had an awesome day!! The chipmunk photo was JUST what I needed b/c we saw quite a few but I was never quick enough with the camera plus I was juggling dogs, leashes, backpacks….. so your photo was the PERFECT addition to my Walk in the Woods! Thanks 🙂
