4/18/13 gym, meeting for a new account!, shoe repair store, beer store

4/18/13

started the day with a run with Chester then
a class at the gym with Maddie!
my bluebirds abandoned the nest box out front
& have started a home out back.
Hoping they will be happier here. They did have 2 eggs out front….
then something “got them” & they disappeared 😦
Had a meeting today at Cafe Michelangelo in NE Philly.
My territory will technically be Philadelphia Suburbs
but this is close enough to the burbs to qualify.

I met with Carmine my former boss at Terranova Wines.
His brother owns Cafe Michelangelo so it was an
awesome introduction!Carmine has offered to help make introductions
to other restaurants as well. woo hoo!On another note – he works for New York Life
so if you have any life insurance needs or have questions
feel free to contact Carmine here:

Remember:
There is always someone you can help!!!

It’s a challenge to find a GOOD shoe repair these days.
It’s definitely a dying craft.
Fortunately, we have one fairly close to our house.
I was amused at the passive/aggressive signs posted
all over the store – here are just a few!”we have no Elves working here over night”
the shoe repair happens to be in the same
shopping center at the BEER STORE…..
so of course I took a gander….
Now the BEER store carries CIGARS!
probably over-priced like their beers…..

Wednesday 4/17/2013 Fred’s breakfast club, gym, birds, The Enchantress

Wednesday

4/17/2013

I was coming home from last night’s event in North Jersey.
I decided to stop at Fred’s Breakfast Club before going home.
I had the good fortune to park
in Joyce’s Favorite Parking Space.

Luuuuucky!

Quiet at Fred’s around 6:30 a.m.

Time to make the croissants……

My zebra mug.
I was in a panic, at first, bc I couldn’t find it.
Does an Early Bird use MY MUG??
no….it was just hiding…..

gorgeous river views, never disappoints…..ever.

Wasn’t sure what was going on – I thought maybe
someone hit a deer bc they stopped traffic
in both directions.
What they were doing was — setting up a Speed Trap!
Don’t speed on 232! Windy Bush Rd!!
to & from New Hope!! no speeding!!

Maddie wondering where everyone was at the gym?
We were there, that’s what matters!btw – I am going to MEET Maddie this Saturday.
I am very excited & looking forward to meeting
this amazing dog!
Anyone tagging along for the adventure??

quite the bird show at my house today.
First this Cardinal 🙂

The Enchantress – by Michael Scott.

The last book in the Alchemyst series.
My goal is to read 50 pages a day until
we leave for San Francisco (next Friday).
friend Vanessa has all the other books & I want to
leave this one with her so she has the whole collection.
Currently I am 92 pages behind in my reading schedule.
I thought I would read all day today.
Didn’t happen…..maybe tonight? or not…..
I LOVE to read – I just always run out of time!

April 16th Tuesday NJ Co-op Tasting 2013

4/16/13

I had the good fortune to be invited to the
NJ Co-op Tasting described as:

1000+ wines. Fifteen distributors.
Five hours. One venue.

It was a great opportunity to taste some superb wines
& network with those in the industry.
It’s similar to when I was on Wall Street,
it’s a small community & it seems everyone
knows someone. One big family all interconnected.

Coffee for the ride….
It’s going to be a long night!
really, 1000+ wines…….
Outside my hotel the skies were ominous.
A perfect night for a wine tasting!
the Co-op wine tasting was held here:
Garden State Exhibit Center
50 Atrium Drive, Somerset, NJ
It was a non-descript warehouse & all spread out.
A lot less crowded than last year but lacked
the charm & intimacy of a wine tasting.
I always run into friend Andrea.
She is a buyer for a wine store in NJ.
Andrea & I attended WSET wine classes together.
She has a phenomenal palate.
Me & Dick Phillips.
Dick owns Phillips Fine Wines in Stockton, NJ.
I’ve known Dick for over a dozen years & have
shopped at his store for a long time.
He has stellar wine selection.

http://www.phillipsfinewines.com/

We liked MANY of the wines tried tonight.
These were a few of our favorites from
Tempranillo, Inc.
Scott Gerber of Martin Scott Wines
(he’s TALL – that’s why he stooped down!)
and Bryce – my wine rep when I was at
“the store”….

Bryce from Martin Scott Wines…..
(the company I almost worked for)

It all worked out in the end –
my new venture with Winebow is phenomenal.
It’s hard to describe how excited I am to
work with such a great company with
a tremendous territory.
Lucky Me. Lucky Them.

remember – send me all your referrals!
restaurant owners/managers in the Philly burbs!

“Divert your eyes before you are blinded by my Awesomeness”~said Axl on the TV show The Middle
friend Andrea with my former Wine Rep Ryan
and his fiance’ Christine.
Wrapping up the FIVE hour wine tasting.
I know, tough job, someone has to do it!
Thank you Peter for the Co-op Tasting Invite.Peter works for Tempranillo, Inc & has been
very supportive & helpful in my career transition.
I strive for these qualities.
It’s a good list!

Monday 4/15/13 Cherry Trees, Dani Rae, shopping!, vball, Iron Abbey :)

Monday 4/15/13

The trees across from our house
are BLOOMING Big Time!!!
same kind of tree in front of our house
doesn’t want to come out of hibernation!!
Wonder what that’s all about??
friend Dave stopped over with a present for
Danny Diehl’s baby girl
sister Pat made a picture book about the baby
Every child begins the world again….the book is cute – make sure you take a look
next time you are over…..

the dreaded shopping trip.
I’m not a fan of shopping!
I need new clothes first, for a wine tasting.
Second, for my new job in general.
In all my past jobs we were always casual &
in this job it’s definitely more dressy/trendy.
took 6 dresses in the fitting room
& came out with FOUR!!
on the first try.LUUUUUUCKY!!

got this cute outfit too – shorts & cute top.So….. shopping wasn’t so bad after all……

A card I got from cousin Rose Mary –
congratulating me on my new job.
It WAS work getting where I am.
I think I am going to really like this job 🙂
Warming up for Monday night Volleyball.
afterwards, friend Jim & I often stop at the
Iron Abbey & have a flight of beer.
The selection they have is quite good.Couple bonuses with our stop here tonight:

James the bartender gave me a new tasting glass.
(I broke my favoritist one a couple weeks ago)
AND – this is a big bonus…..
I met the OWNER & talked WINE with him.
He gave me his business card & said call
him when I officially start.
Woo hoo!!Can you think of anyone else I should meet?
Anyone who owns/manages a bar/restaurant?
let me know!

Thanks for all those who already gave me
some contacts. I appreciate it!

“Feed your passion and it will feed you.”

Nope this isn’t another version of
“do what you love and the money will follow.”

The truth is, feeding your passion
takes more than doing what you love
– sometimes it takes doing things
you absolutely LOATHE!
But do them anyway,
to keep the light of passion burning,
and you find that even things you loathe
can be fulfilling.

4/14/13 Road Marshals on “Tour de Open Space” bicycling event

4/14/13

Today we volunteered to patrol the roads
& make sure cyclists were safe in
a charity event called “Tour de Open Space”.

Funds raised by the Tour de Open Space
will help New Jersey Conservation Foundation
fulfill its mission of preserving land
and natural resources.

Checking out the map seeing where we had to go
We were on the rolling 35 mile ride
there were 200 cyclists pre-registered
Friend Joyce (in black) volunteered to
help with registration
It was a gorgeous day for a bike ride.
Highland Gourmet Market was the rest stop
we were at the end of the ride so there
weren’t too many people
We ended up with our promised 35 miles.
It was a good day!
Creek next to where we started the ride
Maddie the Coonhound.
I get to meet her next Saturday.
Anyone want to come along?
She is signing books in the city.

Saturday 4/13/13 Canal Clean up, Veterinarian & King of Tarts

Saturday 4/13/13

Chester snarfing – We are on our way
to do Canal Clean Up with our bike Club members
The section of the path we were cleaning up
is about a 2 mile stretch.
Everyone gathered here to start, dogs included!
Joyce & Jingles running through the dam overflow water
Looking for trash, we didn’t find much
fishing trash out of the canal
Chatting with some fishermen
Weasel being lead dog
getting our trash in a pile for the photo opportunity. The biggest things we found were a tire &
a broken plastic chair. The path was relatively clean.

The clean up crew!
Next we were off to the Veterinarian
Weasel & Chester waiting their turn
Weasel having ear work done.
she was quite cooperative.
We were in charge of dessert for a dinner tonight.
We stopped here at King of Tarts – a new bakery
that is quite fabulous!http://kingoftartsbakery.com
we decided on this triple chocolate cake –
it would pair great with red wine!
