Traveling across nine states in the U.S. from Texas to Maryland, Dutch photographer Charlotte Dumas, 34, captured the remaining dogs in their twilight years in their homes where they still live with their handlers, a full decade on from 9/11.

Their stories have now been compiled in a book, called Retrieved.

‘I felt this was a turning point, especially for the dogs, who although are not forgotten, are not as prominent as the human stories involved,’ explained Charlotte, who splits her time between New York and Amsterdam.

‘They speak to us as a different species and animals are greatly important for our sense of empathy and to put things into perspective.’

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation.

We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence,

but rather we have those because we have acted rightly.

We are what we repeatedly do.

Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

4/12/13 ~ Wine seminar, haircut, present from Rich

4/12/13

DEDICATION!
Saw this lady running early in the morning –
on a rainy day – this was what I was supposed to
be doing but gave myself off today….
I was headed into the city for a
morning meeting at my new job!
It’s a fairly long commute & unfortunately
the train is not an option 😦

The Philly office for my new company.
It’s nice, bright, colorful, inviting.
I like it!

We were having a wine seminar on Northeast Italy.
I love this place already.
Learning lots of new information about wine.
It never ends! this is GOOD.

Part way through the seminar.
Spitting all the way – you cannot drink!
It really IS work. Really!

my new boss sent me home with a new hire
binder full of material. WOW!

It’s all a little intimidating but I’ll get there…..
doing what I can…….

homework……

the BEFORE getting a haircut photo

after….
Not a BIG change…..
just added some color & trimmed it up.
The asymmetrical cut is trendy & is good for
my new job. Maybe next time we’ll switch it up.

Friend Rich sent me this for my last day at work.
How fun! A work-avoidance report card!

Thanks Rich, you’re the best.Anyone looking for a speaker at their company?
Rich is your guy!!!

Friends are like wine.

I’m not sure that’s what they mean by
“now reduce the wine”……

They did have a little Goodbye party for me.
Totally unexpected. They can’t have something
for everyone who leaves!!

neighbor Deb LOVES puffins so when I saw PUFFER
I knew I had to get him for her.

Michael sent me this picture of his co-workers
Cow & her calf that was 3 hours old.

This is crazy weather we are having.
It will probably snow next!

Making treats for the dogs but my two-legged

it was a nice night so we walked.

neighbor Deb & I with Archie.Archie is a rep for a local beer distributor.
We run into him all the time.

Hopslam Ale

It is a state of the art gym

a little volleyball action
after volleyball, friend Jim & I stopped at the Iron Abbey
to catch up on the Phillies game & NCAA playoffs.James the bartender saved us a taste of this beer –
