10/23/10 Pizza,Pizza,Pizza,Pizza,

10/23/10

Along with Pumpkin Carving I wanted to do a
Pizza Tasting which required me to go to
FOUR pizza places. We timed everything perfectly
& “Operation Pizza Pick-Up” went quite smoothly.
Cimg0826
Maple Glen was the first stop –
WHAT? They don’t take credit cards???
I need some cashola!

Cimg0827
Success in getting the first Pizza from Maple Glen.

They have a pizza they call the Boardwalk Pizza which is kind of

like a place we go to on the Boardwalk down the shore.

ordering pizzas # 3 & 4.
We were organized!
Cimg0830
“the exchange” –
Tonelli’s DOES take credit cards!

http://www.tonellispizza.com/

Cimg0831
here I get the “red & white pie”
~ it is their white pie drizzled with special sauce
Cimg0834
We never tried QUIG’s but heard it was good –
we just got “plain cheese pizza”
& we were NOT disappointed!

Cimg0835
airing out the pizzas – we didn’t want them to get steamed
Cimg0837
last stop was JOE’s in hatboro —
theirs is also similar to the boardwalk pizza
Cimg0839
getting a sniff……

Also our friends brought pizza from Anthony’s coal fired grill which

was a big hit.  We didn’t do an official tasting b/c they kind of got

mixed up when I reheated them. I think everyone liked all of them!!

Cimg0840
by the end of the night we only had 1 1/2 slices left.
I guess we can say the pizza tasting was a SUCCESS!

Every dog should be trained to meet people at the door like this.
Except our dogs would be trained to bring REAL beer not that lite stuff!

10/23/10 Solebury Orchards

10/23/10

I was having a Pumpkin Carving “party” at my house tonight
so sister Pat & I ventured off to Solebury Orchards.
We needed pumpkins, apples & cider.
(not to be confused with “cidar” – haha Joyce!).
Solebury Orchards is maybe a 1/2 hour from our house.
Another great recommendation from co-worker Ray!

Cimg0805
On our way to the Orchards we stopped to visit
our brother Raymond at his shop.
Disappointingly he was not there 😦
so i just a got picture with his studio sign.

Cimg0812
I got my pumpkin for carving!
Cimg0820
Pumpkin Patch – kind of small but sufficient!
Cimg0823
Cutting Garden. they give you nippers & you fill up
a container full of flowers for $5 – it was a bargain!
Cimg0815
it was slim pickings on the flowers this late in the season
but Pat was able to find a good bunch for us

anyone need a few? Stop over!

October 22nd, 2010 It’s NUTTS!

October 22nd, 2010

Been wanting to try this restaurant for AWHILE.
It’s located in Titusville, NJ – about 30 minutes from Ivyland.
It was my brother Larry’s birthday this week so we
decided to try out It’s Nutts for the birthday celebratory dinner.
My co-worker Ray is friends with the owner so he arranged
a reservation that they normally don’t do. Thanks RAY 🙂
Sign
It Nutt’s — not a fancy place, but good food
Cimg2933
kind of looks like an old-fashioned ice-cream place
on the side of the road

Cimg2937
Mural of the canal path.
Booths & tables & outside seating too.
Cimg2939
playing with our magnetic balls – they always keep us
entertained when waiting for dinner
Cimg2940
birthday boy brother Larry & his son Larry jr next to him
Cimg2943
these were risotto fritters. I thought they were “ok” –
but everyone else really liked them.
Cimg2945
sister Pat LOVED the roasted potato garlic soup.

*************************************************************************

after doing “research” and talking to people  – I was told there

are TWO things you must order when one goes to It’s Nutts:

the famous fried chicken & there tomato pie

Cimg2946
fried chicken was pretty awesome.
I can’t remember the last time I ate fried chicken –
seriously, years maybe?
The cool thing here – is you can just order a couple
pieces & try it – you don’t have to order a lot.
Cimg2947
The tomato pie was equally as awesome.
I like the plan – others liked the sausage.
Cimg2949
brother Larry & Me
Cimg2951
being goofy — LOL —
Cimg2953
homemade ice cream.
I was advised to get the banana chip but they didn’t have that.
We went with heath bar chocolate coffee &
pumpkin – it proved to be a tasty combination!

———————————————————-

We liked IT’s NUTTS & will go back.

I think I’d stick with the basics – the fried chicken & the Pizza.

Others had dinners – which were good but not GREAT.

Overall – it’s a casual atmosphere & a FUN TIME.

Friday 10/22/10 Trick or Treat

Friday 10/22/10

There is going to be a Pumpkin Carving Contest in our building where we work.
My co-worker Ray & I decided we would give it a go.
We are both going to carve pumpkins over the weekend
so we can sharpen our skills & WIN the contest!
Cimg2899
Ray with our Pumpkin.
We got “pick of the litter” as our office is right
next to the building management & we saw
them bringing in the pumpkins!
Cimg2900
Kate & Mawlana – part of the building management team.
They were going office to office giving out Halloween candy!
Cimg2901
i discovered the “perfect food pairing” –
an apple & twix bar – it was quite tasty!

10/21/10 Weyerbacher Beer Tasting

10/21/10
Once a month Hatboro Beverage holds a
“master Craft Beer meeting” at a nearby German club
called Verienigung Erzgebirge…..(please don’t ask me how to pronounce it).
Tonight we were tasting beers from Weyerbacher Brewery
~ located in Easton, Pa — about an hour drive from Ivyland.

Img_1919
Burt – owner of Hatboro Beverage checking in Michael
Img_1920
They always have tasty snacks for us.
Tonight we got a nice treat –
homemade chips & Salsa from a nearby
 Authentic Mexican Restaurant:
El Rincon

Img_1928
Yellow t-shirt I was hoping to win – but didn’t 😦
Img_1930
Mike & Maureen – friends we made here at the
Beer Tasting & after a few conversations
discovered we have many mutual acquaintances.
Img_1933
Mike Lubieski – Regional Sales Manager for Weyerbacher
Img_1938
Sporting the new shirt Michael bought for me
at last weeks beer tasting event
Img_1939
Harvest Ale was the first beer we tried.
We actually kind of liked this one – even though
it’s not generally the style of beer we drink.
Img_1958
Next up was the Merry Monk’s Ale.
I like this one as it is a Belgian Style beer but
Michael does not like it as he has a very
“narrow Palate”……. (he’s an IPA snob)
Img_1961
Michael is such the “connoisseur” (snob) he brings
his OWN BEER to beer tastings!
….. Southern Tier is a good one!
Img_1963
Double Simcoe is one of our FAVORITE Weyerbachers beers –
we were quite pleased they had this one!
Img_1964
WINNER WINNER chicken dinner – FINALLY!!!
I was commenting how it seems we NEVER win
prizes & they called my number – woo hoo!
I won a bottle of Pumpkin Beer & a $5 gift card.
Img_1966
I’ll let you know how I like it –
generally not a FAN of the pumpkin beers…..

Roasted Carrots

Roasted Carrots

Roasted-carrots

Roasted Carrots

Serves 4 to 6.   Published November 1, 2010.   From Cook’s Illustrated.

Ingredients

1 1/2

pounds carrots , peeled, halved crosswise, and cut lengthwise if necessary to create even pieces (see illustrations in Cutting Carrots for Roasting)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter , melted
Table salt and ground black pepper

Instructions

  1.  Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 425 degrees. In large bowl, combine carrots with butter,  teaspoon salt, and  teaspoon pepper; toss to coat. Transfer carrots to foil- or parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet and spread in single layer.                                                     (I just used the pan – no foil/parchment)
  2. Cover baking sheet tightly with foil and cook for 15 minutes. Remove foil and continue to cook, stirring twice, until carrots are well browned and tender, 30 to 35 minutes. Transfer to serving platter, season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve.

Roasted Carrots – FINALLY.

I was reading Cook’s Illustrated on my way home
& they had the secret recipe for roasting carrots.
Of course I had to make them & they were
DELICIOUS!
Cimg1835
neighbors Adam & Vanessa beckoned Dr Danny Diehl
for an assessment of an injury that Ava sustained

(while wrestling alligators).

Danny was quick on the diagnosis –
YES – she needs to go the hospital & get stitches.
Cimg1838
AVA – the patient (before stitches)

…had to go with black & white mode as I could not

delete the scary red eye – plus all that blood….
