10/11/10 Happy Birthday to ME!

10/11/10

Originally I thought we would BIKE on my day off for my Birthday –
but really – we do that ALL the time & it’s not really “special”.
One thing I rarely get to do, but LIKE to do, is RELAX.
Sit & read have a cup of coffee in the morning
or a glass a wine in the evening while reading…..
I’m not really a “shopper” but needed a few things –
so after relaxing for a bit in the a.m. we
went out & ran some errands, did some shopping.
Cimg1803
after going to DICK’s sporting store & getting me a new pair
of “Ass Kicks” (asics) we went to Eastern Mountain Sports
so i could check out the VIBRAMs.

Cimg1805
they’re definitely pretty funky
Cimg1806
sock shoes…….  I’ll keep you posted on what I think
Cimg1808
We stopped at our Firehouse to drop off our paper recyclables.
we usually just put it out for the recycle guys but the
firehouse gets money/credit for theirs.

sister Pat made a SEAFOOD dinner for me. I like seafood but
don’t eat it as often as I would like.  THANKS PAT!

presents from MICHAEL — WINE & the kitchen sink sprayer!

Our kitchen sink  sprayer broke & I said all I wanted for my birthday

was to have it replaced….. so ta da! that’s what Michael gave me!

Poem I got for my birthday:

You’re the kind of person, Helen,
Who’s hard to forget,
A one-in-a-million
To the people you’ve met.
Your friends are as varied
As the places you go,
And they all want to tell you
In case you don’t know:
That you make a big difference
In the lives that you touch,
By taking so little
And giving so much!

10/10/10 Sunday Orienteering, birthday dinner @ Chickie’s

10/10/10

Today my friend Kathy invited me to go ORIENTEERING with her & her mom.
Do you know what ORIENTEERING is? If not, learn more here:
but basically…..
“Orienteering is a family of sports that requires navigational skills
using a map and compass to navigate from point to point…..”
Cimg2807
Kathy (on left in shorts) checking us into the course.
Today’s event was held at Bucks County Community College –
about 15 minutes from Ivyland.

The “backyard” of BCCC

is Tyler State Park. I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again –

We are SO LUCKY to live in such a beautiful area.

We never take it for granted & ALWAYS appreciate it!

our second checkpoint. it’s electronic.

Cimg2812
I liked the giraffe sculpture
Cimg2816
we finished!!  I don’t think our time was stellar but we
had a great time navigating around in the woods

tonight we went to Chickie’s & Pete’s for dinner.

http://www.chickiesandpetes.com/

It’s a popular bar/restaurant in Philadelphia that we
never go to because it’s not real close & Michael
doesn’t really like it. I was in the mood for CRABS
& chickie’s is the place to go for crabs…
Cimg0754
i like drinking grey goose dirty martini’s
with my crab legs
Cimg0756
we tried their new menu item – Cheese steak nachos –
not quite “diet food” ….  VERY TASTY…..
Cimg0758
Chickie’s specialty crab fries -we went with the combo….
regular crabfries & sweet potato fries…
both were yummy!
Cimg0759
of course Michael ordered wings – good thing b/c he hardly
ate any of his dinner – he was being rebellious – oh well –
it’s my birthday & that’s where I wanted to go!
Cimg0762
snow crab legs – one of the reasons people eat at Chickie’s!

We come into this world crying

while all around us are smiling.

May we so live that we go out of this world smiling

Saturday 10/9/10 Taco Suave

10/9/10

We have often ordered take out food from Taco Suave
but never ate there. We recently read a review about
this place & the guy gave it 5 AH’s out of 5.
So we thought – we better get there!!
It’s minutes from our house – we could walk, but didn’t.
Cimg1787
Taco Suave – a casual byob authentic Mexican restaurant
Cimg1789
started with chips & salsa ~ were VERY TASTY.
~ the salsa was obviously freshly made.
Cimg1790
Pat mixing cilantro & onions into the guacamole
Cimg1792
mmmmm Guacamole!!  as good, maybe better than ours!
Cimg1793
tostada, taco, chimichango platter – all so good.
Saved the chimichango for another meal.
Cimg1795
the small beef soup.  on the menu they just have LARGE
but you can request a small even if it is a challenge
conveying you want SMALL
Cimg1798
spicy shrimp soup — it was SPICY & very shrimpy.
definitely a repeat order……..
Cimg1799
Spicy Shrimp Soup
Cimg1802
Michael ordered beef enchiladas in a mole sauce.
they brought him chicken at first but then made
him new ones.

OVERALL……. we all liked Taco Sauve and could agree with 5 mmmmm’s.

Next time I’d like to bring my friend PETE who speaks Spanish b/c

there seemed to be a slight language barrier…..

They were kind of slow which was FINE b/c we were not in a hurry

& it was nice to relax & drink my home made Sangria while

10/9/10 SPCA, train, biking

10/9/10

We have been having GORGEOUS weather here on the East Coast.
After dog school with Chester & Weasel we, of course, went biking!
Cimg1760
There is a steam engine that goes from Ivyland to New Hope.

About a 15 mile stretch through beautiful Bucks County.

It doesn’t run all the time but yesterday it did & we got
to bike alongside it.
Cimg1761
Here come the train!
Cimg1762
The conductor DID wave but I wasn’t quick enough to
get that photo.
Cimg1763
We saved this turtle from getting run over
by a car.
Cimg1765
We were too late to save this snake.
Cimg1766
We stopped at the SPCA to visit our kittens.

Unfortunately they were living at a foster home

& we couldn’t visit them. I was hoping

I could have convinced Michael to let me

keep one as a Birthday Present since I

didn’t get the Hot Air Balloon ride I wanted.

Cimg1767
Picture hanging in the SPCA
Cimg1768
I always like the shadow pictures when we are biking
Cimg1769
Here’s my shadow!  lol
Cimg1780
We rode 40 miles today. It was a great ride 🙂
Cimg1781
Weasel resting after a long day of dog school & napping.
Cimg1782
got a birthday card & a buck from my brother Michael.
Haven’t seen him since 1988 for various reasons……
Weird, huh? Well, we do write occasionally….
The letter he wrote inside my card was
actually VERY FUNNY.
Cimg1783
and a an unexpected card from my
friend TIM SMITH…. with a
Starbucks card too 🙂
so very thoughtful ……
I never even met TIM!!!!!

Howard is in charge of organizing the road markings.
Cimg0681
Michael’s box was quite handy
Cimg0686
the box even had a spot to hang the stencils
Cimg0687
oops – we did this one WRONG!
it was upside down it should say CB…
not backwards BC
Cimg0691
CB – this is correct!
Each color designates a different ride.
Green is the 50 mile HILLY & orange was 33 mile ride.
Cimg0694
Joyce & me at the first covered bridge.
Are there Covered Bridges were you live?
Cimg0696

Cimg0723
after painting the town Green & Orange – we went

Driving Dog asks for Directions

Canadian postal workers decided to have a little fun. They rigged a
van so that the people on the driver’s side could only see the
driver….who is a dog. The real driver, who is on the passenger side,
cannot be seen. Partway down the street in a residential area the van
stops and a man (obviously in on the deal) approaches the driver (the
dog) and starts giving him directions, as though the dog is lost.
