Me telling Michael “you are right”.
It rarely happens & figured we’d better get a picture of THAT!
He thought it would only take an hour to our first
rest stop (15 miles) but I thought it would take longer.
Cimg9841
Mary taking a break after a hill.
I tried to convince her to lay in the grass –
but shouldn’t wasn’t going for it….
Cimg9842
Greg & Michael – leaders of the Pack
Cimg9843
The views are stunning but this picture does NOT
do the landscape justice.
{Plus I was pedaling while taking this photo.}
Cimg9845
self photo at 33 miles – 9 more to go.
I forgot to get a group photo – darn.

(6/26/10)  We rode 42 quite hilly miles.

All good – we lived to tell the story…..
that’s 499 miles year to date.
Jeez had I only known earlier … I would have pushed

for 1 more mile to make an even 500!

LOOK OUT!!!!! these are tricky photos to take!
Cimg9857
the baby tree swallows out back are 12 days old.
the one on the left is TINY but seems healthy –
no doubts he’ll be the last to fledge.

loved this funny photo my friend posted on her blog
“insanity is my valium” –
if you have a PETS (that beg) you also may get
a kick out of her begging pets narrative.

Howardengel

I read quite an interesting article in the New Yorker Magazine

about Howard Engel. He was an author who had a stroke

and subsequently could not read but only could WRITE.

How strange would THAT be?

This 3 minute NPR video is not nearly as great as

the article but it’s a start. Feel free to do more

research on this topic. It’s quite interesting.

Love20burger
This is the LOVE BURGER.

http://www.uwishunu.com/2010/06/frog-burger-edits/

A new outdoor restaurant opened on the grounds of

the Franklin Institute (Philadelphia’s Science Museum).

Frog Burger offers this delectable sandwich: the LOVE Burger ???

a giant burger sandwiched between two grilled cheese sandwiches.

Add bacon for an even more epic noshing experience…..

I’d have to bike there & back (44 miles) just to work off

that indulgent meal……

6/25/10 Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza

6/25/10

Been wanting to try Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza since we came back
from Key West. We heard it was like the pizza at Bobalu’s ( a yummy
restaurant/bar in Key west). Also it was likened to the more local
located in a not so desirable neighborhood but has more
than desirable pizza…..Needless to say, my expectations were HIGH.
Cimg1044

Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza – there’s Michael rushing to get in there.

It’s located in Horsham, PA (Blair Mill & Welsh Rd).

about 15 ish minutes from Ivyland

Cimg1065
Fully stocked bar – they actually had a beer Michael
would drink – Victory Hop Devil!
The weird part is – all their drinks – iced tea/sodas
are served in bottles. They DO recycle = bonus points.
There was a 30 minute wait but we could
sit & eat at the bar immediately, so we did.
Cimg1066
The dining room was BUSY
Cimg1067
Kitchen was hopping!
Cimg1068

WARNING! Our pizza is “WELL DONE”.

Cimg1069
sister Pat & shared this salad :Anthony???s Italian Salad (for 2).
It sounded good & looked good
but the dressing was missing something.
It tasted like a vinaigrette without
the vinegar…. I wanted to like it but couldn’t.
Cimg1070

Coal Oven Roasted Chicken Wings/ Served with grilled onions & foccacia bread….

Not QUITE Buffalo Wings but they WERE tasty.

Cimg1071

Broccoli Rabe and Sausage – Michael’s dinner.

(he doesn’t really eat Pizza – so UN~American!)

Cimg1072
There she is. Our Coal Fired pizza.
Well, for starters, it was NO Bobalu’s or Tacconelli’s.
It WAS tasty & we liked it ~ but not what I was expecting.

We’ll go back to Anthony’s – but I don’t have to go back RIGHT AWAY.

btw – the server brought us a side of the dressing that is used on the salad

(b/c we like to dip the pizza crust) & the dressing was totally

different (better)  than what we had on our salad earlier.

Cimg1074
ELVIS to keep the girls company in the ladies room
Cimg1075
afterwards…. we went grocery shopping next door
at my favorite Market – The Fresh Market.
I bought stuff I didn’t know I needed!

Thursday 6/24/10

Long story short…. my friend sent me a job listing for a WINE EXPERT.
Next thing you know I have a job!
I was hired to work a Wine Cruise – alrighty – I’ll give it a try…..

Winecruise

the Ben Franklin Yacht.

It sailed from a dock off Columbus Blvd (near center city)

Cimg0965
This is AL – he runs the wine event.
He’s bringing in the wines for tonight’s tasting.
Cimg0969
That’s his partner Andrea – we are getting the wines set up
Cimg1011
Waiting to board the Yacht
Cimg1015
A couple happy wine tasters with Al & Andrea
Cimg1018
Me & Trish – another Happy wine drinker!
Cimg1019
Captain Tom
Cimg1022
Walt Whitman Bridge (heading South)
Cimg1024
I like this photo of the plane flying over the ship
Cimg1027
AL & the wine expert… that would be ME.
Cimg1029
Sunset Cruise…..
Cimg1031
Sexy Wine Bomb was everyone’s favorite (including mine).
It was a red wine blend from California.
Cimg1035
Center City Philadelphia by night
Cimg1037
Ben Franklin Bridge
Cimg1042
birthday girl Violet & Me — end of the evening…..

Overall – the Wine Cruise was a fun night & I think most people would enjoy it.

The wines were “good” but not the killer cabs that some of us have in our

wine cellars – otherwise Al would have to charge a lot more $$$$$.

6/22/10 Helen’s review of KRAFTWORK (gastropub)

6/22/10

Not sure how I “became friends” on Facebook with KRAFTWORK but I did.
They regularly post their beer list & specials which TOTALLY enticed me to go.
(

HINT to those who have a business: SOCIAL MEDIA WORKS!!!!!!!!)

I almost gave up YOGA to go there last week but I didn’t.
This week Michael had a meeting in town & suggested he pick me up after work
and we try KRAFTWORK since we’ve been DYING to come here.
I ditched my BIRD MEETING and off to Kraftwork we went.
Kraftwork I suppose could be categorized as a new “gastropub” which
seems to be the recent craze in that area of Philadelphia
(fishtown, port richmond, northern liberties…. not necessary in that order).
It’s probably 45 minutes or longer from Ivyland – depending on traffic.
But from Center City, where I work – it is minutes.
Cimg9820
YAY!!!  Happy to FINALLY be at KRAFTWORK 🙂

http://kraftworkbar.com/

Cimg9821
The sampler is a GREAT DEAL – 4 tasted for 8 bucks.
I went for (left to right):
  • Southern Tier 2XIPA Imperial IPA
  • Founders Double Trouble Imperial IPA
  • Bell’s Consecrator Dopplebock
  • Lost Abbey Serpent Stout
Cimg9822
The beer list is ridiculously EXCELLENT

(in my opinion).

unless of course your favorite beer is yuengling, budweiser,
miller lite – then this place is NOT FOR YOU.
Cimg9823
The bar has totally cool metal artwork throughout.
I kept thinking of my brother Ray.
He could make any/all of the stuff in there.
Was really quite unique.
Cimg9825
Check out the table pedestals ….. and the walls….

A quote on the website says “furniture or sculpture”?

Also the walls expose layers of the original brick,

and for a cool effect they left some old wallpaper.

WITH that said — as the night progressed & the crowd grew-

the noise also increased…..

Cimg9826
I ordered this yummy ricotta dumpling. Was nice and light,
creamy texture, divine. Accompanied by a spicy red pepper sauce.
Served with a little side of perfectly sauteed Swiss Chard.
Cimg9827
I know you will find this hard to believe – but I made “friends”
with the lady sitting next to me & she let me take a picture
of her burger. Well, if you know me – the ONLY place I will
consider ordering a burger is Ted’s.

After seeing “bar friend’s” burger
I could really be tempted to order one HERE.
The food service was quick & prompt.
I’d actually like it to be a tad bit slower…….

Cimg9828
Fried Green Tomatoes with Buttermilk Horseradish Cream.
As tasty as could be.
Cimg9829

Cheese platter

~ Came with flatbread, 4 cheeses &  condiments accompanying each cheese.

Please don’t ask what each cheese was…

a blue, two brie like cheeses and another one.

Cimg9831
THE TAPS – 25 of them…. it’s like Beer Heaven here.
Cimg9832
Loving the bar stools — I NEED a couple —
brother Ray — HELP!!!!!
Cimg9835
and an ANVIL sitting on the bar….
which was made of Tiger Maple – gorgeous!

We (Michael & I and “bar friend” gave KRAFTWORK 2 thumbs up –

I’m already a little sad though b/c I know it will be FOREVER ’til  we get back there.

Wishing they would open a BUCKS COUNTY Branch of KRAFTWORK……)
