1/18/13 A tour of Glencairn in Bryn Athyn

1/18/13

Img_7220
sister Pat had a Groupon to see this Museum/House
located in Bryn Athyn maybe 15 minutes from Ivyland.

Glencairn was the home of Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn, built in the Romanesque style between 1928 and 1939.

It’s amazing to think this is where a family LIVED!!
…in a castle!

We’ve driven past LOTS of times but never visited

The Cathedral

The Bryn Athyn Cathedral is situated on a hill overlooking the picturesque Pennypack Creek Valley in the borough of Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. Since its dedication in 1919, it has been the central place of worship for the Bryn Athyn Church and a gathering place for members of the New Church throughout the world.

Heroes were individuals who were remembered
and revered for the good deeds they performed for
their community.

Do you know any HEROES?

Wednesday 1/16/13 gym. LinkedIn Seminar, Wine tasting, Marguerite visit

Wednesday 1/16/13

Img_7175
Boot Camp included “the rope” today —
we all dislike the jumping rope but will admit –
it’s a GOOD workout!
Img_7176
Today I headed over to
Bucks County Community College
for a LinkedIn Seminar

Donna Serdula was speaking about LinkedIn

Img_7183
Remember this??  The Periodic Table.
The seminar was being held in a Chemistry Lecture Hall.
Img_7184
The seminar was good & I immediately implemented
a few of the tips that Donna shared with us today.

Img_7186
Tonight’s line-up for my wine tasting at the
Newtown PA Liquor store

Cline Viognier & Red Blend called Cashmere
and a couple chocolate wines.

Img_7187
I volunteered a guy in yellow pants to take my picture.
A little blurry but better than no picture.
Img_7190
Friend Marguerite was home visiting from Hawaii
where she now lives.  She came over last night & we
were so busy chit chatting I forgot to take pictures so
I amusing this archived picture of Marguerite!

Tuesday January 15th 2013 running, ICE fountain, Hockey player, dogs

Tuesday January 15th 2013

Img_7160
We’ve been having MILD weather so this morning I
took Chester for a run in the park before I went
to work. He wasn’t feeling good last night so I was
happy he was enthusiastic about a run.

Img_7162
meanwhile, friend Shannon, who lives in Arizona
was having 20 degree weather!!
So cold this fountain FROZE!

We’re having opposite weather –
they are having our weather
& we are having theirs……

Img_7164
Chester inspecting life size hockey player.
Danny has first dibs on him & I did confirm
that he does want him. Sorry Jim, Ryno & Dave!

Img_7167
Does anyone drink Grappa??
In my store it is in the Sweet Dessert Wine section.
I don’t know why. It’s not sweet & it’s not wine.
I’m trying to get them to change it.

Irish20flu20shots
Has anyone gotten the FLU??
How about a Flu Shot??

Monday 1/14/13 Come with me to Center City, PA Career Link & more!

Monday 1/14/13

Img_7143
On the train – on my way to Center City Philadelphia.
This is really the ONLY way to go into the city
ESPECIALLY during rush hour.
Img_7144
The office I was going to is located in Chinatown.
Here is a Chinatown parking dragon.

Img_7144a
I was in town to take a Civil Service exam for the
PA Liquor Store.
Last year they offered me a part-time job which
I did not take as I thought I could make more
contacts & find a full time job where I was.
Well that didn’t happen & if I had taken the
Liquor store job I’d be working full time by now,
with benefits. Hindsight……

Img_7145
The exam waiting area is uneventful and I can
say that everyone that works there is nice!

Img_7147
after the exam I walked thought the heart of Chinatown.
Here is the Chinatown Arch.
Does every city have a Chinatown?
And do they all have the Arch?
Img_7148
I had to pass by the Bus Station.
Why do they always seem seedy??

Img_7148a
I always like to visit Reading Terminal.
It’s like a glorified Farmer’s Market.

Img_7149
I was VERY disappointed to see my favorite place Closed 😦

Goodbye Basic Four Vegetarian.

Good news though — I did some homework & found they
are going to be offering cooking classes. Maybe I can
get the secret recipe for their Soy Chicken Salad
that tasted like real Chicken Salad. mmmmm.

Img_7152
I walked past City Hall & apparently there was a
high profile trial going on – news trucks were waiting
to get some photos.
Img_7154
That’s William Penn – on top of City Hall

Img_7155
30th street train riders:
Track Five – A plug in station –
juice up your phones!!!
Img_7156
after Center City I had to go to PA Career Link
to call Unemployment.  You have to come here to
call because when you try calling from home
it’s busy for the first hour then you are on hold
another couple hours.  If you call from here you
get right through.

Img_7157
There is always a line but you still only have to wait
about 20 minutes which is way better than hours.
I found out my unemployment benefits are up so now
it’s time to use savings until I can find a REAL JOB!
I’ve been looking!!!!!

Img_7158
PORTAL – this is one of my favorite wines these days.
When I was asked in my interview the other day what
wine would I serve to friends this was the WINNER!
Who need some??

Img_7159
SUCCESS!!!  Finally found a dog food Weasel will eat.
This is exciting!!!  She’s so finicky I’d swear she
was part CAT!!

Sunday 1/13/13 gym, pet store, Chester, Wing Lee

Sunday 1/13/13

Img_7120
who else needs an extra day between Saturday & Sunday?

Img_7124
BUSY day at the gym – Sunday’s are always crowded
& with New Year’s resolutions they pack them in!

Img_7127
Stopped at the Pet Store looking for some
quality dog food for Weasel now that both dogs
are on an eating schedule.
Img_7128
Chester got a new Pig Toy
Img_7129
later we went for a run in the park.
Chester checking out the scenery.

Img_7130a
dog hair everywhere but the dog
Img_7131
Michael fixed our rocking chairs & gave them a new
coat of paint – don’t they look nice?

Img_7132
I made Chicken Jerky treats for the dogs.
It’s one of the only treats Chester can have.

Img_7133
I also made some delicious Sangria with leftover wine
from my wine tasting Wednesday.
I wasn’t planning on drinking it so I just froze it.

Img_7136
friends Dave & Tami invited us on a double date
to one of their favorite Chinese restaurants.
We’ve been there before but it’s been a long time.
The food was VERY good & we WILL be back.
Sooner than later this time!

Img_7140
Dave, Me & Tami

Thanks for the invite – the food was good –
company was GREAT 🙂
