What am I going to drink on THANKSGIVING??? suggestions……………

NOVEMBER 2012 gobble gobble

Nothing sets the mood better than a sparkling wine.
ALWAYS with big family gathers (even small ones)
I like to start off with a little BUBBLY.

Img_6039
LAMARCA PROSECCO comes from Italy.

Prosecco serves as an increasingly popular alternative to
Champagne and is Italy’s answer to refreshing,
well-made sparkling wine at a reasonable price.

Img_6040
Gloria Ferrer Sparkling Wine.

For California Sparkling Wines I
ALWAYS go back to Gloria.
We have a history – try her.

Delicate pear and floral notes backed by toasty almond.
On the palate, one finds lively citrus, toast and apple flavors overlaid
with persistent effervescence, a creamy mid-palate and toasty finish.

Img_6041
and here is the Real Deal :
Piper-Heidsieck Champagne.

We can call this Champagne because it is FROM
Champagne, France. Do you know that story?

Firm and lightly toasty, this offers ripe flavors of
candied orange peel, grilled nuts and ground ginger.
Shows fine balance and a pleasant juiciness that builds
to the mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2020.

Img_6042
I like a Pinot Noir with my Thanksgiving Dinner.
It is probably the most popular red choice for Turkey.

Helen’s 3 suggestions in order of price
  • Smoking Loon
  • Pinot Project
  • Wild Horse
—————————————————–

You say you don’t want RED WINE
& you really would rather have WHITE?

Img_6043
Let’s get crazy & get something off the charts….
Gruner Veltliner

Gruner Veltliner pairs well with a number of foods.
Its naturally high acid and full-bodied texture
make it a versatile and exotic alternative to Chardonnay.

Img_6045
Gruner Veltliner ~ GREAT WITH POULTRY

Img_6046
I can’t ignore one of my all time favorites:
Kung Fu Girl Riesling…….mmmmm
(no, I am not sweet says kung fu girl)

~ light to medium body with flavors of red apple, apricot & peaches.

Img_6047
Splurge wine – a “buttery” Chardonnay.

Ask Joyce – she can explain!

Img_6048
You won’t go wrong with this choice. Trust me.

Img_6049
If you MUST do a BIG RED – I’d go this direction.
Marietta Angeli Cuvee.

Img_6050
This is a blend predominant in Zinfandel,
with very soft tannins that would be
a nice complement to your meal.
IT’s Not that PINK stuff but the yummy red one.

Let me know if you want this –
I think we only have a few bottles left!!
Believe me – You Want Some!

Img_6051
Seghesio makes a nice Zinfandel too.

~ Very dark purple colored Zinfandel with a very inviting blueberry bouquet ~ hints of blackberry jam.
On the palate, this wine is medium bodied,
juicy & fruit forward. Very tasty black raspberry
with notes of  black pepper and blackberry.
The finish is dry and its moderate tannins.

What’s for DESSERT????

Img_6053
Choco Vine – ORIGINAL

ChocoVine is a French Cabernet
combined with dark chocolate from Holland.

Don’t laugh – get a bottle & share with
family & friends. A great after dinner treat.

Img_6054
AMARULA
 – another one I Love…. & you will too.

Creamy color with a slightly lighter body than Bailey’s.
~ Better than Bailey’s AND it helps the elephants.

You can’t drink just one glass, really…
right Tanya??

Img_6055
last on the dessert list —
do you like: Tequila & Coffee??
If you answered YES to that question
you can’t NOT LIKE Patron XO Cafe.

Patron XO Cafe marries 100% agave
silver tequila with coffee to create a
slightly sweet, full-bodied and assertive liqueur.

Tuesday 11/13/12 the gym,INTERVIEW, wine school & some wine shopping!

Tuesday 11/13/12

Img_6038
As you know – I like to start the day with the gym 🙂
If I save it until later it’s too easy to find excuses
not to do it. SO – I get it done & over with
early in the morning.

Img_6039
Had a phone interview with Double H Plastics.
Double H is a company a friend of ours owns.
It is a marketing position which sounds like
a job I would really like. Plus the commute
would be nice. The company is less than a
mile from our house!!!

Img_6041
Wine School!!

The course I am taking WSET is not offered
by the Art Institute – it is just were the
classes are held.
Img_6056
I usually get to class early – the teacher is
just setting up
P1060428
“HOMEWORK”

~ this week we learned about Australia,
New Zealand & South Africa
– the wines from these regions taste so different
than the ones we are accustomed to from California

P1060432
assortment of White Wines

A friend of mine was put in charge of wine for
a big party so he called me 🙂

It was fun shopping using someone else’s money.

Drink THIS with Thanksgiving Dinner!

I ALWAYS like starting big family Holiday meals (and even small ones) with a SPARKLING WINE – whether it is from Italy, California or France

IMG_6039

LAMARCA PROSECCO (ITALY)

~ has always been a favorite of mine

IMG_6040

A little pricier (but not much more $$)  Would be the GLORIA FERRER sparkling wine from California.

IMG_6041

And for the SPLURGE I recommend the

PIPER-HEIDSIECK CHAMPAGNE

this is from Champagne France so we are allowed to call it CHAMPAGNE…..

IMG_6042

Pinot Noir is always a nice lighter bodied red to pair with the BIRD, HAM, LAMB – or whatever you serve for Thanksgiving.

In order of price

Smoking Loon $, Pinot Project $$ & Wild Horse $$$

IMG_6043

If you are looking for a WHITE –

try this for a change – GRUNER VETLINER

IMG_6045

It’s a little off the beaten path – something new for THANKSGIVING

IMG_6046

oh KUNG FU GIRL  — love this wine

Dry Riesling I like this EVERY DAY & not just on THANKSGIVING!

IMG_6047

Clos Pegase is a splurge wine.

IMG_6048

This one has a nice Buttery flavor..

mmmmm!!

IMG_6049

If you MUST have a hearty red –

you really want to go with a ZIN so you are not overwhelmed with the tannins like a big chewy Cab.

Marietta is a LOVELY BLEND & it will not disappoint!

IMG_6051

this is dry & has smooth Tannins.

Try it, you’ll  like it!

IMG_6053

I know – A little crazy –

Chocolate AND Wine — TOGETHER.

It tastes WAY better than it sounds. REALLY.

IMG_6054

AMARULA – similar to Bailey’s but better.

AND, it helps the elephants.

IMG_6055

Like Tequila? Like Coffee?

You will LOVE this. Trust me.

Monday 11/12/12 my FRED’s Mug, St Germain, bird treats, Volleyball

Monday 11/12/12

Img_0585
Today is my favorite day!!!

Img_6008
LOOK!!!  my friend Joyce’s daughter is
using MY mug at Fred’s breakfast club.
You can use it too if you go –
just NO STRANGERS using it!!!

Img_6010
Dog Drugs – do yours take them too???

Img_6014
It was a little confusing with who took
what drugs when so I created a spread sheet
for administering their pills.
As long as we remember to give them their
meds the sheet works good!

Img_6016
This is the cocktail I will be serving at tastings in NJ.
I met with the company today & got the job.
So, I now have 3 part-time jobs AND go to school.
Doesn’t leave much time for laying on the couch
doing nothing……

I collect $100 bills if you have any of them
laying around that you want to get rid of.

Img_6025
Time to finally crack down & study.
It was such a nice day, I really wanted to
go out & play but I need to do homework.

Saturday 11/10/12

Img_5980
Michael my bike butler
getting our bikes ready for a short ride.

Img_5981
my reflection in the car window

Img_5982
We were being rebels & biking on a closed road.
It’s about 10 miles long (each way) & the opening is imminent.
We were getting to ride it before cars got on it.
Img_5983
There is a recreational path next to the road
for the length of the bypass. I could see walking it.
Img_5984
The path is dog friendly.
Img_5985
Mutt Mitt……Better than a Bag!!!
Img_5986
in addition to the recreation path
there is a Bike Lane
Img_5988
Here we are at the end

Img_5989
20 miles is better than NO MILES!!!
Img_6005
We checked out a new Bottle Shop in Buckingham –
it is next to the Candlewyck. They advertise 1,000 beers.

Img_6006
Not quite sure they have 1,000 but there sure
do have a lot & a good selection as well.

Img_6007
Barking Squirrel – we got one of these
just because of the squirrel label
Img_6010
Michael wanted to go to the Publick House –
we had a coupon!!!!!

Img_6012
Ran into friends Joanne & Joyce (right).
They were leaving as we were arriving.

Img_6015
There has to be an easy way, right???
