10/9/11 Covered Bridge Ride -DURING

10/9/11

On the Covered Bridge ride —
You have five beautiful routes to choose from — 20, 30, 33, 50 or 63 miles.
There are rest stops about every 10 miles where you can take a break –
eat snacks, fill up your water bottle, take a potty break, have your bike worked on….

J
this house was next to the first rest area
K
our first stop
L
friends Michael & Judith were manning this station
M

“We don’t beat the reaper by living longer.

We beat the reaper by living well and living fully.

For the reaper is always going to come for all of us.

The question is:

What do we do between the time we are born, and the time he shows up?

Because when he shows up,

it’s too late to do all the things

that you’re always gona, kinda get around to.”

The truth is that instead of revealing what’s there, it creates it.

10/6/11 Fried Green Tomatoes with a Roasted Bell Pepper Sauce

10/6/11

be prepared for some deliciousness!!!

P1010487
grilling peppers is quite simple.
Crank up the grill & throw them on.
P1010489
turn & cook until BLACKENED!!
this should be easy for the guys
P1010492
important step is getting them in a bag to let them steam.
put them in the bag & roll up the top – then you can
get preparing the other parts of your meal.
P1010493
i started out with GREEN TOMATOES — but as you can clearly see
a couple of them ripened on me — I used them anyway
P1010494
the eggs & flour concoction in the background –
with sliced tomatoes
P1010495
often one faces the QUANDRY of knowing WHEN the oil
is HOT ENOUGH to do the frying.  I don’t do much frying
so this step often trips me up. Recently I read an article that said throw
a few corn kernels in the oil & when they pop, it’s ready.
Genius!!!
Of course many people use microwave popcorn but we don’t.
If you need to borrow a few kernels let me know –
I would be happy to share!
P1010498
fried green tomatoes
P1010501
had to sample & it was so delicious.
cooked to perfectness.
P1010502
here are the red ones. the green ones cook up better.
P1010504
this is what the peppers look like after steaming.
they get all deflated.
P1010508
the skin easily peels off
P1010511
ta-da!
P1010513
this is how I make my roasted red pepper sauce:
P1010515
here is the recipe for the Fried Green Tomatoes
P1010517
Weasel eyeballing the tasty tomatoes
P1010518
gorgeous day for lunch on the deck!
