Wine that Pairs with THANKSGIVING DINNER

It’s that time of the year that everyone asks me, being the WINE EXPERT I am…..
WHAT WINE should I serve with the bird (Turkey) for Thanksgiving…..???
I put together this handy guide which I hope you will find useful.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH THE BIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turkey-wine-index-11-06-flat

The big question – which wine or wines go with Thanksgiving Dinner?
Another question to ask is:  Do I want ONE WINE for the whole dinner
or several that pair with each course – appetizers, turkey & sides, dessert?

If you want ONE WINE to take you through the gamut a good choice could
be a sparkler.  Champagne/ Sparkling Wines are not only for special occasions
and celebrations.  Gloria Ferrer Vineyards makes a nice sparkling wine, it is
reasonably priced & accessible at most liquor stores.

If you opt not to serve the Sparkler here are some other ideas:

White Wine suggestions:

RIESLING: a nice white wine that can be dry or fairly sweet,
excellent with any dishes that are spicy, salty or sweet.
{Pronunciation: Rees-ling}

here are a few suggestions in the $10 range:

Yalumba Y Series Riesling (Australia)

Dr. Loosen Riesling 2007 (Germany)

Firestone Vineyard’s Select Riesling 2007 (California)

Sauvignon Blanc: This is a crisp white wine, easy drinking, light to medium bodied.
{Pronunciation: saw vee nyon blahnk}

a few suggestions:

Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc  (New Zealand)
Beaulieu’s Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc (California)

The LAST WHITE WINE I’d like to suggest is my favorite…..
VIOGNIER!  (vee oh nyay)

Viognier is a nice white varietal.    try it, you’ll like it.
If not – give it to me – I will finish it for you.

Elk Cove Viognier Willamette Valley (Oregon)
Hogue Viognier Columbia Valley Genesis (Washington)
Pride Viognier Sonoma County (California)

RED RED WINE suggestions…………….

Certainly one cannot talk about Thanksgiving wine pairing without
mentioning Beaujolais Nouveau!

Beaujolais Nouveau: A light, fruity red wine, from the Gamay grape,
it goes quite well with turkey and all of the fixings.
*This wine is ONLY released from France on the third Thursday of November.

{Pronunciation: boh jhoe lay noo-VOH}

Les Vins Georges Duboeuf & Louis Jadot are probably the largest purveyors of Beaujolais.

If you chose not to serve Beaujolais then Pinot Noir is a good choice!

Pinot Noir: This red wine is a traditional favorite for Thanksgiving.

It is smooth and silky, with subtle aromas.
{Pronunciation: pee noh nwahr}

Vineyards that produce nice Pinot’s: (and you should be able to find…)

Argyle Pinot Noir Willamette Valley (Oregon)
Elk Cove Pinot Noir Willamette Valley (Oregon)
Beaulieu Vineyard Pinot Noir Napa Valley Carneros (California)
Estancia Pinot Noir Monterey Pinnacles (California)

Zinfandel: A fuller bodied red wine that ups the intensity from a Pinot Noir.
~ a great wine pick for those looking for a heartier red wine.

Zins to consider….. that may be easy to find:
Cline Zinfandel Sonoma Valley Sonoma
Frog’s Leap Zinfandel Napa Valley
Steele Zinfandel Mendocino County

OR get this one — if you can… Rust Ridge Zinfandel ….

My friend STEPH works there – tell her HELEN SENT YOU!

AND of course — if you happen to open a bottle of wine & don’t care for it
this is what you do with it…………Make Sangria!

Hachi: A Dog’s Tale / Movie Review

51xztntcql
I enjoyed Hachi & was warned it would be a tear jerker but what it really is :
Is A true story of faith, devotion and undying love!  It’s all in one’s perception…..
Anyone who has ever owned a pet will get something out of  “Hachi: A Dog??s Tale.”
It is a plain yet touching film based on a true story.

A man finds a lost Akita dog at the local railway station and there is an immediate bond.
Every morning, Hachi goes to the train station with Parker to see him off.
Then Hachi waits patiently for Parker to return home every evening.
One day Parker dies at work and doesn’t come home.
Hachi ends up going back to the train station to patiently wait for his master day after day.

Don’t mistake Hachi: A Dog’s Tale as a downer, even with all the heart-tugging.
It’s an inspirational movie & I would totally recommend it.

btw – Hachi means number 8 in Japanese — which is how I came to watch this movie.
8 is my FAVORITE NUMBER……. it also means Good Fortune and ….
#8 in the 17 Success Principles correlates to Pleasing Personality. so there!

CRUSH IT by Gary Vaynerchuk

Crush It   was an interesting adventure. It was recommended to me by a friend I trust.
At first I LOVED it. I thought WOW – “the energy this guy has is awesome – I want to be Gary”.
Then I read more. The energy was still there & Gary gives what sounds like good advice.
I think my “problem” is finding the passion/business/plan that need to be executed in the style he suggests.
I think for someone trying to promote a business this book would be a good guideline for them.
To me, it felt a little “hypey” but I don’t think it is – I think Gary is genuine.
I just think the book wasn’t for me at this juncture so in turn I thought it was “ok”.
Hoping SOME of this makes sense…….
I most likely will read it again sometime in the future
& maybe I’ll think WOW from beginning to end?

11/15/10 Balloon mystery & another dishwasher lesson

11/15/10

Cimg3154
see the WHITE ROUND thing? It’s a balloon, mystery to me.
There was a guy taking a picture of it.

Should have gotten HIS picture but I needed to get to work!

Cimg3155
the Balloon was still there when I left work
Cimg3158
WHO’S IN CHARGE HERE??
wonder what it is all about, anyone know?
I googled it & came up empty handed.

Cimg3050

another announcement for the MEN:

this is a dishwasher that is FULL of
CLEAN DISHES. Don’t be afraid.
Cimg3052
You put the CLEAN dishes in the cabinets –
glasses go with glasses
Cimg3054
Plates & bowls live in the other cabinet.

When the dishwasher is EMPTY that is where DIRTY DISHES go to live.

Any Questions?

Sunnyday 11/14/10 Tony’s Place, Ivyland

Sunnyday 11/14/10

Been in the mood since Oct 21st ( i know this b/c it was brother’s bday)
for TONY’s tomato pie – so finally after we did our “stuff” today we
ran over & had some pizza & salad. Well, we actually drove but could have
walked – it is only one mile from our house. I am surprised I did
NOT walk.  What was I THINKING???
Cimg2003
Michael got the wings which were ok
but the blue cheese was REALLY GOOD
Cimg2005
sister Pat & I shared an Antipasto salad
Cimg2007
there’s our steaming hot pizza pizza!
Cimg2010
we get 1/2 cheese pizza & 1/2 tomato pie
Cimg2011
the tomato pie really does have cheese on it –
but it is underneath the sauce. It is provolone cheese,
not mozzarella.
Cimg2013
Chester got a new bed & he is already using it!
