11/13/10 dog school, bagels, bread biking , accident

11/13/10

Dogschool
Chester hadn’t been to school in awhile.
We like to keep him socialized so he doesn’t regress.
He played with neighbor dog Romeo last week –
that is huge progress!!!
Cimg3117
Before biking we stopped at BUCKS BAGELS –
our neighbor Hector just bought it & we wanted
to show him support. Food & service are GOOD here!

Cimg3118
after NOT biking because HELEN forgot her bike shoes –
we stopped at the Farmer’s market to get bread
for tonight’s ITALIAN DINNER.
Cimg3141
when we got home – I went for a ride by myself
as Michael wasn’t feeling great.
I checked on the progress of a building being
constructed in the Industrial Park across from us.
The SCREENING ROOM – looking COOL!

Friday 11/12/10 HOP ANGEL

Friday 11/12/10

Hop_angel_brauhaus-266x400

We’ve been wanting to try HOP ANGEL since it opened a month or so ago.
Tonight we had a double date with Michael & Judith from our bike club…
HOP ANGEL is owned by a guy named SCOATS who owns
the GREY LODGE in Philadelphia (which I adore!).
Needless to say – I was going into Hop Angel with HIGH EXPECTATIONS.
Hop20angel

this is HOP ANGEL – it is the old “Blue Ox” who I
used to sell wine to.
German food is the specialty of all the restaurants
who go in here – I don’t know WHY?
0921diningroom
here is the dining room & there is a pub/bar section as well

The beer list 🙂

Cimg3098

Cricket Hill Nocturne Dark Lager

~The beers on tap are all German ones – not quite the style we prefer.
like i said – I guess i was FALSELY thinking it would be like
Grey Lodge – which has an awesome beer selection.
Cimg3099
I brought toys… and we are all 2+ so it was age appropriate
Cimg3100
CHEERS – we all tried something different….
not sure any of us loved any of them!
Cimg3101
we WERE entertained…..play-doh should be standard
on every dinner table!
Cimg3102
Steak Tartar with anchovies, capers, shallots, an egg….
well… this I never had but since we like our burgers
RARE – thought we’d give it a go.
it was interesting – but not sure we will order it again
Cimg3103
french onion soup – was ok

Michael said it was “ok” but wasn’t real enthusiastic about it.
where is the bacon???  I don’t see bacon…..i do see egg….
maybe the bacon was IN the meatloaf?
Cimg3113
Deutsche Bratwurst
~Pork & Veal Bratwurst Sandwich & Fries

I’m not eating this but friend Michael thought it was ok.
The FRIES – they are a whole other story….
WOW.  We could order JUST them next time
& we would ALL be happy happy happy

Cimg3114
Käsespätzle

~Cheese & Spätzle in Onion Butter Sauce

The Spatzle ( German noodle) were tasty – but not the “traditional”
ones to which I am accustomed. Tasty though. Would re-order –
assuming we go back to Hop Angel…….

sister pat response to ITALIAN DINNER

In a message dated 11/11/2010 11:42:33 A.M.  neecee723 writes:

Hi All

We are going to have an Italian Dinner at our house this Saturday, early evening.   We thought we would just throw the invite out there and see who might be available.  When we know everyone’s availability, we can
plan the menu accordingly.  I’m thinking a little pasta, gravy, salad, bread, dessert, wine, beer and
GREAT FRIENDS  – it’s all good.

We hope you can make it.

Love,

The Not-so-Italian Daniels
Roman, Denise and Georgia too!

Dear Denise, Roman and Georgia–although I know Georgia will never read this and the human Daniels will keep everything a secret from Georgia,

I accept your invitation for Saturday evening.  I would have been the first to respond except that I am reminded of  a bible quote that says “the first shall be LAST and anyone after the first is safe at home plate.”  PLUS when I told my vice principal that he would just have to wait until I answered an email he didn’t think that would lend to a positive classroom evaluation.  I mumbled “freakin’ loser” under my breath and put off answering your email until now.  AND NOW look what happened….all the good stuff that I wanted to bring is taken!!!!!!!  Why does one’s job always have to interfere with one’s social life????

My first question is this:  Were you announcing that there will be an Italian at dinner?  We rarely have Italians over our house for dinner.  In fact, I barely know any Italians.  So to be able to sit down and have a conversation with an Italian might be great.   I’d like to ask them what it’s like to be in the Mafia, if they have an alternate name (like Johnny “Chicken Lips” Polotano” or Tony “Gnarly Toes” Esposito—I think I’d like to have the Mafia name  Patty “Skinny Bitch” Mathis just to confuse the hell out of people), I’d asked how true is the Godfather movie, are they bookies and do they break the legs of people who don’t pay their debts and where did they bury Jimmy Hoffa? Also is there some reason why you didn’t have a Polish or German or Irish dinner?  I hope those ethnic groups are not offended…not that I am but just wondering.

My next question is this:  Is the great friends part of the menu???….like we’re not going to be doing the cannibalism thing?  I really don’t want to find out if humans taste like chicken.  OR was that invitation to bring all the people that we know that are just great?  I mean that would mean like a few hundred for me.  OR can we consider our family pet as our great friend since you did include Georgia on the email?  {If that is the case, then Weasel &Chester will attend.  The Bitch Cat will have to stay home & practice being bitchy so she won’t be able to make it……}   Sometimes, people say one thing but really mean another.

3rd question concerns “We hope you can make it”…..does that mean you hope that we can “cook” everything that is needed for the Italian you invited for dinner at your house with his/her great friends….like we would be the catering company?  Apparently, you were able to get quite a few neighbors to “make it”….quite a racket you have going there.

4th concern:  I noticed that there were no “meats’ included in the listings of things people were bringing.  Was dinner to be a vegetarian meal and I didn’t get that memo?  So as NOT to offend the vegetarians I will be happy to bring dog biscuits (for dogs not made from dogs) and to offend the vegetarians I will bring Italian sausage.

5th question:  where do we get directions to your house and what time will be serving the Italian?  And the time that dinner will be served…..will that be the Daniels’ “on time time” or the Debbie Rounds “2 hours late time”?—–yes, Debbie you are always late….but then that gives us time to talk about you….. and I hope Debbie gets assigned dessert as I would be starving my ass off waiting to eat if she volunteers a main course item.  Oh, I get it….Debbie knows that bible quote…the first shall be last and the last shall be first.

SO DENISE, ROMAN (if you’re from Rome than you’re a Roman and Romans are from Italy so having Roman (the husband) in your family makes your household 50% Italian), and GEORGIA:   Just to reiterate…..I will attend, I will bring Italian sausage, I will bring dog biscuits, I will bring 100 friends and I will be happy to have an Italian dinner with the 50% Italian Daniels and neighbors.  Thanks for organizing something that I have been thinking about doing for the last 7 years.

11/11/10 basement, ice maker, oink

11/11/10

Cimg1991
We had RICK over to give us an estimate on our basement.
who ENJOYS this process?? I pretty much HATE IT!
Cimg1996
Rick making notes. better him than me.

We had another contractor out earlier this week.

Does anyone know someone who does basement finishing

that we should talk to before making a decision?

Cimg1997
who needs an ice maker??
I used this a few times – makes nice ice cubes
but you cannot STORE ice cubes in it.
I prefer “party shaped” cubes.
If you want it let me know!!!!
Cimg2000
don’t use this. it sucks.
“cleans to a sparkling shine” is a LIE!

THESE REALLY WORK!!

I checked this out on Snopes and it???s for real!

      AMAZINGLY SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES:

1.  AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP.

2.  AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH THE FEMALES ABOUT LIFTING THE TOILET SEAT BY USING THE SINK.

3.  FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS. REMEMBER TO USE A TIMER.

4.  IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES. THEN YOU’LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH.

5.  YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE – WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN’T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN’T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

DAILY THOUGHT:

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES – NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.
