4/11/12 "vegetarian" & THE UNION LIBRARY OF HATBORO

4/11/12

P1040031
the Foodie Photo-A-Day today is “vegetarian”.

I whipped up a batch of guacamole.
This is everything I like to put in my guacamole –
& it IS quite delicious.

Cilantro, lime, onions, jalapenos, tomatoes, garlic, salt
P1040035
I can never decide if I want a Hard Taco or a Soft one
— so I just go with one of each!
P1040038

Today I was invited to a meeting at the Hatboro Library.
They are doing a fund raiser in September & they need
some advice in the Wine Department.

September 29th – SAVE THE DATE!!!

Botani Sierras de Malaga Moscatel Seco 2010

Botani20moscatel20seco

Botani Sierras de Malaga Moscatel Seco 2010

This Spanish white wine is a WINNER.

Pale straw in color, big on flavor.

Grapes are grown on a fairly sloped vineyard which means

hand-picked grapes for you & me.

When they harvest the grapes they are carried up by mule!

A lot of work goes into this wine

 – it’s definitely not a “run of the mill” wine.

They don’t use Chemicals to fertilize

– another reason to like this wine.

The bouquet is light with aromas of apple & orange

with a slight floral scent.

Botani is quite acidic making it a perfect partner for spicy food.

I get flavors of honey & jasmine on the palate.

It has a dry pleasant finish that says DRINK ME NOW!

today’s Foodie Photo-A-Day is PLATES.
The plate above represents the original ones I got for us
when we moved here. Each one is handcrafted by an
artist & subsequently each is a little different.

of course – the $1.99 Target Monkey plates are
the ones I always use.

Tonight I attended the screening of a movie about
Local Foods & “saving the planet”.
The show was held at the AMBLER theater
which has been around forever.
It is a cool old movie theater – that has
been renovated, of course.
P1040023
There were presenters in the lobby in advance of the show.
This was Patti Lombardi a Nutrition Counselor
touting the benefits of juicing.  I had juice with
spinach, bananas, pineapple, apples –
it was delicious!
P1040024
This guy was talking to me about BEEKEEPING!
Not sure if I am ready for that – but would not
be against learning more!

2010 Chateau Ste. Michelle-Dr. Loosen Eroica Riesling

Clip_image002

2010 Chateau Ste. Michelle-Dr. Loosen Eroica Riesling

Lucky us to have this collaboration between two fantastic vineyards:  Ste. Michelle winery in Washington state & Dr. Loosen from Germany.

Eroica is light straw in color with a fairly pronounced bouquet. The nose is citrusy (orange/lemon) with apple/pear aromas as well. There is a perfect balance between Acidity & Sweetness with a mild tartness on the finish.  Acidity is not crazy – Eroica would be perfect for food pairing (think Spicy) or great to drink on its own. Flavors of lime & peach prevail with a little added minerality giving it a refreshing finish.

Drink this now or save for a few years – it will just get better…..though after writing this review I’m ready for a glass NOW!  Great value – buy some today!

Interesting fact:

Eroica was named after one of Beethoven’s Famous Symphonies by the same name, Eroica

Sunday 4/8/12 Easter dinner with the family & "family meal"

Sunday 4/8/12

I guess no one wanted to cook so my family decided
we would go out for an early Easter dinner.
Cousin Rose Mary really likes Ponzio’s diner
(which is more restaurant-like than diner-like)
& it is near her house in NJ – so that’s
where we went for Easter Dinner.

Saturday April 7th 2012 Fire, Taormina’s, "who’s cooking"

Saturday April 7th 2012

P1030968
we needed the Fire Company today at work…
someone threw a cigarette in our mulch pile
& started a fire. Probably a smoker.
P1030971
after work we went over to Taormina’s for dinner.
Two of our neighbors work there.
Raelah & Illya: Ivyland neighbors!
P1030975
 chef Walter outdid himself tonight:
Shrimp & Asparagus skewers served over puff pastry
topped with shitake mushrooms and sun dried
tomatoes in an orange cream sauce
P1030977
literally…. Asparagus skewers.

Amazing appetizer – as Raelah told us….
did not disappoint…
